XVideoServiceThief (a.k.a xVST) is a Windows, Linux and Mac OS X tool for downloading your video clips from a lot of video websites. Well, xVideoServiceThief can download video clips from 76 websites (and counting), such as: YouTube, DailyMotion, CollageHumor, Google Video, Metacafe, Myspace, Vimeo, Yahoo Videos, some adult websites and a lot more. A complete list of supported websites can be found.
Ubuntu installation. The latest xVideoServiceThief is available @ GetDeb.net (for Ubuntu Lucid only; for Karmic, an older version is available). If you don't have the GetDeb repository, download file and installing it will add the GetDeb repository. Then simply run the following command to install the latest xVideoServiceThief: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xvst Once installed, you will find xVideoServiceThief under Applications Sound & Video. Note: since the Karmic version is older, YouTube downloads won't work since YouTube changed the way it works not so long ago.

The default settings convert to AVI files but they do not work on my DivX Player. The converted videos work perfectly on my computer. At first I only wanted get the MP3 files from the videos on YouTube. Then I changed my mind and wanted the videos that have lyrics for Karaoke. But there is no tutorial on how to manipulate the settings to make the video output compatible with most Divx players. I've already updated the ffmpeg.exe 0.6.1 file but that did not help. In the end, I cannot use this program for video conversion to AVI files since they won't work on my Sumas Media SM-30BT DivX player.
Otherwise it's very simple to use and I enjoyed using it to extract the audio from videos on YouTube.
